Harvest Moon Farm Tour

When: Saturday, Sept. 8, 1 – 5:30 pm

Where: Pick up at the Soldotna Safeway


Wondering what it takes to produce and sell food on the Kenai Peninsula?  Tour three local farms including Lancashire Farms, Ridgeway Farms , and Alaska Berries , that have met the challenge in unique ways.  Meet the farmers and hear their stories: how their farms evolved, lessons learned along the way and why they are passionate about what they do.  Taste a variety of Alaska Grown wines to complete the tour.  This tour, sponsored by Kenai Soil & Water Conservation District and Kenai Local Food Connection in collaboration with Alaska Farm Tours is the special kick-off event for Harvest Moon Local Food Week.  Tickets: $50, include a wine tasting at Alaska Berries. Harvest Moon Wild Edibles Hike

When: Sunday, Sept. 9, 1 – 3 pm

Where Milepost7, Funny River Road


Come and take a walk and learn about edibles of the Alaskan wilds from fungi to trees and all those plants in between with two local herbalists, Larissa Notter of Alaska Herbal Solutions  and George Spady of Alaska Boreal Herbs Shop.  Meet at Milepost 7, Funny River Road at 1 pm.  For more information, call 844-437-2006.


Harvest Moon Berry Identification Walk

When: Tuesday, Sept. 11, 4:30 – 6 pm

Where: Kenai Peninsula Food Bank
Get to know the wild berries of the Kenai Peninsula, what’s edible and what’s not, on this walk led by UAF Cooperative Extension staff.  Meet at Kenai Peninsula Food Bank for a brief introduction followed by a walk on nearby trails.



Harvest Moon Keynote Talk 

When: Friday, Sept. 14, 6 – 8 pm

Where: Soldotna Community Library


Join us for an illustrated talk entitled “Alaska’s Path to Food Security” by Delta farmer and Alaska Flour Co. founder, Bryce Wrigley, at Soldotna Community Library.  Light refreshments will be served. For more information, about Wrigley check out his bio.


Harvest Moon Local Food Festival

When: Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 am – 6 pm

Where: Soldotna Creek Park


It’s the Kenai Peninsula’s biggest local food celebration ever.  There will be live music, activities for kids, guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, farm vendors, a “preserving the harvest” tent, food trucks featuring healthy, local ingredients, and all sorts of Alaska Grown and Made in Alaska food and wellness products. Check back soon for a list of participating vendors, speakers, and musicians.
